New Homelift installed in the stairwell of a multi-family house in Bern

The challenge

The installation of the homelift presented a unique challenge, as the lift had to be integrated into the existing stairwell of the building. The stairwell is the free space located in the center of a spiral staircase or stairwell. This placement allowed the lift to be accommodated within the existing building structures without requiring major structural changes.

This lift serves a total of five floors, from the basement (UG) to the third floor (3.OG), with a total height of approximately 10.83 meters. The platform measures 1100 mm x 1500 mm and is equipped with a non-slip anthracite safety floor, an anodized aluminum handrail, and integrated LED lighting in the back wall to ensure additional safety and comfort. The lift is powered by a reliable and efficient 2.2 kW spindle drive system and reaches a speed of 0.15 m/s, ensuring smooth and steady movement between floors. The installation required no major structural changes, as the control box is integrated into the shaft, eliminating the need for a separate machine room. Additionally, the lift is equipped with a battery-powered emergency lowering system to ensure user safety in case of power outages.

This project was realized in close collaboration with the architectural firm Fritschi Beis Architektur. The planning and coordination of the renovation and refurbishment works were crucial to ensure that the lift was optimally integrated into the building and met the requirements of all parties involved.

Technical Specifications

Drive System

The lift uses a spindle drive known for its reliability and efficiency. The drive power is 2.2 kW, and the power connection is 230 V / 16 A / 50 Hz.

Load Capacity and Speed

The lift can carry a load of up to 400 kg and reaches a speed of 0.15 m/s, which is frequency-controlled. This ensures smooth acceleration and deceleration during the ride.

Travel Height and Stops

The travel height is approximately 10.83 meters, corresponding to the five stops. The access side is designed as one-sided.

Machine Room

The lift does not require a separate machine room, as the control box is integrated into the shaft.

Safety Features

The lift is equipped with a battery-powered emergency lowering system that allows self-evacuation by the user without external assistance. The floor controls operate with a single press of a button, while the platform requires constant contact (dead man's control).

EcoSilent Technology

This technology ensures quiet operation of the lift and simultaneously reduces power consumption by approximately 45% compared to other drive systems. The sound pressure level during movement is less than 40 dB(A), resulting in very quiet and pleasant operation.

Space-Saving Design

The lift requires no overhead clearance (the height of the lift shaft above the last stop) of more than 2050 mm from the floor level of the top floor and no pit (the depth of the shaft below the lowest stop) of more than 50 mm. Alternatively, a ramp can be used.

Custom Design

Thanks to the wide range of design options, from the color of the lift shaft profiles and doors to the choice of materials, the lift can be perfectly adapted to its surroundings.
